Ruach haMaqom joins the community waterway cleanup at Burlington’s Barge Canal.
This event, headed up by Ohavi Zedek, is appropriate for people of all ages, and will include group clean up activities facilitated by community members who have been involved in the Barge Canal area management.
About Reverse Tashlich: This program is a recent add-on to the Jewish traditional Tashlich, an annual ritual in which some jewish people throw crumbs of bread into a body of water during the Rosh Hashanah holiday. The physical act of tossing crumbs is metaphor for the mental process of seeking to toss away bad habits and improve ourselves in the coming year.
Burlington’s ‘Reverse Tashlich’ began in 2022 when, we join 240+ other communities in this new traditional of cleaning up a body of water. Read more about the movement here.
