Kabbalat Sahbbat and ELUL: the month of longing

ELUL: the month of longing. We’ll welcome in the month of ELUL on Friday, August 13th, 7 pm. During the month leading up to Rosh HaShanna, the tradition invites us to do a spiritual walk in order to arrive at the Holy Days refreshed and ready to do the deeper work. Through chant, learning, and ritual, we will weave Kabbalat Sahbbat and ELUL together and enter this sacred labyrinth together. The name of the month is an acronym, Ani l’dodi v’dodi li, I am my beloved and my beloved is mine, from the Song of Songs, Chapter 6:3. During this month of preparation, according to tradition, we are in loving relationship with GD. What better way to look honestly at how we, individually and as a community, are actually living according to our highest values? The Holy Days ahead are deeply not punitive. Rather, we strive for an honest assessment for how we are living our lives relative to ourselves, each other, and the planet.
